With so many college students leaving school to start their own companies and the success that a lot of them experience, people may come to question whether a college degree is still important. Nevertheless, there are still young adults who believe in the value of going to a good college and getting a decent degree. If you are one of these young people, then you need to set your goals clearly so that you will not only enjoy your college life, but you will also make it more productive along the way. To help you set and reach your college goals, you may want to try goal setting programs such as the Covey community or 100 day challenge, and other programs to help you set better goals and deadlines.
Understand why you want to go to college.
Each person has a different reason why he or she would want to go to college. Though it's a place for studying, there are college students who aren't in there just for the learning. Some are actually in college because they want to experience life away from family or the familiar town they grew up in; others want to socialize and meet new people; and there are those who want to feel the freedom offered by college life. The reason behind why you want to go to college will be the framework from which you will build up your goals.
Plot the steps that you need to take.
If you answered the question asked above by saying that you want to meet new people, then take courses and units which will allow you to socialize frequently. Being in the college paper, joining a sorority or fraternity, or joining the student body will help you realize your goal. If you answered that you want to study to become a successful professional someday, then consider taking in more units or majors to further enrich your knowledge. As you can see, knowing the purpose why you want to go to college greatly affects the steps you need to take to begin the 100 day challenge program.
Identify the grades that you need to pass.
Unless you're a consistent honor student who wants to graduate as a cum laude, then it's alright not to spend all your time pouring over books. If you just want to enjoy or experience the college life, you can still join the usual parties and manage to successfully graduate. Getting your BA only requires that you pass a certain grade, so knowing what that grade is will remove the pressure to study so hard off of your shoulders.
